At Solid Rock Community School, we believe every child deserves more than just a meal—they deserve fresh, nourishing food made with compassion. That’s why we’re proud to be one of only two schools in the US offering an exclusive plant-based lunch program—free from animal products and full of intention. But that commitment comes with challenges. Because our school chooses not to serve animal products, we’ve been unable to qualify for traditional National School Lunch Program (NSLP) funding, which is governed by strict US federal requirements—including mandatory dairy servings. While we remain committed to finding a path toward approval, the reality is that—approved or not—the cost of running a fresh, plant-based kitchen still remains challenging. Unlike most schools that serve frozen, prepackaged meals, we have experienced chefs who prepare lunch from scratch each day using a variety of whole foods, plant-based favorites, and fresh ingredients—some harvested directly from our own seed-to-table garden. It’s real food, made with care—for growing bodies, curious minds, and kind hearts. And for many of our students from low-income families, these meals are their only dependable source of healthy, plant-based nutrition each day. Here’s how you can help:Make a donation to support our plant-based lunch program. Your gift will be applied to student meals and essential kitchen needs like ingredients, staffing, and equipment. The amounts below reflect the equivalent cost of feeding one student: • $7 – One day of lunch • $35 – One week of lunches • $140 – One month of lunches • $1,200 – One full school year of lunches • Any Amount – Helps us feed more students and grow the program This isn’t just about lunch—it’s about equity, wellness, sustainability, and compassion. It’s about showing young people that food can be kind—to their bodies, to the animals, and to the planet. And just as importantly, it’s about showing them that plant-based meals can be colorful, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Please help us continue this mission—one student, one meal, one act of kindness at a time.
